We were pretty underwhelmed by getaroom, especially compared to other hotel booking sites in our lineup. We wanted to give it a try, especially considering its place on travel giant Frommer’s Best Hotel Booking Websites list. We found it to be just ok.
The hotel deals getaroom offered on our test trips were pretty good, but not good enough to make up for what is lacking in the rest of the site. What is lacking is the type of information and the type of filters that make for the least regrets and most informed hotel choice.
That is not to say there are no filters at all. This hotel booking site will take your initial list of lodging possibilities and put them in order of best sellers, lowest price, star ratings, guest ratings or hotel names. But other sites let you pare down your list of potential hotel deals much more easily and specifically.
Unlike other hotel booking sites, there is no distance, price range, type or accessibility features. And there is no amenities filter, which was especially disappointing. Of all the ways to narrow a search, that seems to be one you would not want to leave out. Most of the information is covered in the hotel descriptions themselves, but why waste time looking at hotel rooms that have no kitchenette if you know you will want one? One of the best motivations to use one of these sites in the first place is that they can weed out the less desirable hotels for you so you don’t have to sift through them. With getaroom, you will have to do a lot of the sifting yourself.
Hotel information from getaroom is also relatively minimal. The descriptions are in paragraph form and seem a little bulky. The amenities checklist is more helpful than the all the paragraphs of description combined. Guest ratings are provided by TripAdvisor. We like when an outside entity, such as TripAdvisor, provides the reviews, but in this case they are poorly organized and never summarized. Many booking sites make it very easy to grasp the overall impression of most guests. That is not the case with getaroom.
This hotel booking site is just spare in really every way. The reservations process did not really stand out. Similar sites offer pretty nice rewards programs; getaroom does not. A major break on price might have made up for the lack in every other department, but the hotel deals for our test trips were just ok.
Getaroom was really solid in the customer support department, with a best price guarantee, fast and fabulous chat and telephone support, as well as email support.
This hotel booking website falls flat by almost every measure except for customer service. While that is an important part of the process, getaroom just doesn't compare to so many others that excel in every way. Great hotel deals start with a wonderful hotel booking website to answer every question you have. Great hotel deals include great values in terms of price. Great hotel deals are backed up by great customer service. In our experience getaroom offered only the quality customer service part of the equation. For the best hotel deals you may want to investigate our higher-ranking hotel booking sites.
This site offers good customer service.
There is a lack of hotel information and ways to narrow your search.
Besides the international reach, this site has few customer features worth recommending.
